Spa Manufacturers, Inc Case Settles for $8,499

Sacramento CA (3/8/2019) – Spa Manufacturers, Inc. (Spa Mfg.) is a Clearwater, Florida, based company that manufactures portable electric spas. Spa Mfg. sold or offered for sale portable electric spas in California, during the period of July 2011 to July 2018.

This case was the result of a consumer complaint. The Energy Commission’s investigation and testing process identified Spa Mfg. manufacturing and offering for sale portable electric spas that did not meet the efficiency standard, did not have the proper marking, and not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, Spa Mfg. executed a Settlement Agreement with the Energy Commission on February 28, 2019, for $8,499.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Spa Mfg. has also agreed to a compliance plan to remove all non-compliant models from the California market, remove corresponding models from MAEDbS, and to test and certify all basic models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
