SOUIX LOOKOUT ON (3/29/2012) – On February 16, 2012, 917260 Ontario Inc. o/a Perron Contracting and Leonard Darren Corbiere each pleaded guilty to one violation under the Environmental Protection Act for operating a waste disposal site without a Certificate of Approval and for failing to comply with a Provincial Officer’s Order.
The Court heard that the company operates a construction business located in Sioux Lookout. Mr. Corbiere is the president of the company. In July 2010, in response to a complaint, two provincial officers attended the site and observed loads of waste. The majority of the material had been hauled to the site by a construction company. Mr. Corbiere had given the construction company permission to leave the material at the site which was not approved as a waste disposal site. The ministry issued a Provincial Officer’s Order to Mr. Corbiere and the company. The order required the removal of the waste to an approved waste disposal site by September 1, 2010. The order was not been complied with.
The company and Mr. Corbiere were charged following an investigation by the ministry’s Investigations and Enforcement Branch.
The company was fined $5,000 and Mr. Corbiere was fined $3,000 plus victim fine surcharges. They were given one year to pay the fines.
