California Acrylic Industries Case Settles for $100,000

Sacramento CA (4/14/2021) – California Acrylic Industries (CAI) is a Pomona, California, based company that manufactures portable electric spas. CAI sold or offered for sale portable electric spas in California, from July 2015 to July 2019.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that CAI was manufacturing and offering for sale portable electric spas that did not meet the efficiency standard and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, CAI executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on April 8, 2021, for $100,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). CAI has also agreed to a compliance plan to redesign the non-compliant models to meet the efficiency standard and test and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
