Cincinnati, OH – March 28, 2007
In an agreement with Ohio EPA, Sealtron, Inc., 9705 Reading Road, Cincinnati, has agreed to improve its staff hazardous waste handling training and record keeping. The company also will pay a $17,000 penalty for hazardous waste law violations that were documented during a 2006 inspection.
The company owns and operates an electroplating facility in Cincinnati. On May 18, 2006, during a routine inspection, Ohio EPA found that the facility failed to:
* train employees to properly handle hazardous waste;
* conduct emergency equipment and container accumulation area inspections;
* store hazardous waste in closed containers; and
* create an adequate hazardous waste contingency plan for the facility and transmit that to area emergency responders.
Sealtron has corrected all hazardous waste violations. The company returned to compliance with hazardous waste laws on November 27, 2006.
Of the $17,000 that the company must pay, $3,400 will go to Ohio EPA’s Clean Diesel School Bus Program. More information about that program is available at: Ohio EPA Clean Diesel School Bus Fund Retrofit Grants Program
