Ayer, MA – July 1, 2004
CPF Inc. of 25 Copeland Drive, Ayer, will pay the Commonwealth $10,507.50 in penalties for violating air pollution control, hazardous waste, and industrial wastewater regulations.

During a routine inspection conducted in November of 2003, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) personnel found that the company had failed to store organic compounds in a manner which would minimize evaporation to the atmosphere, failed to complete reporting forms, generated hazardous waste in excess of its registered generator status and stored hazardous waste for longer than allowed by regulation.

The company manufactures soft drinks and bottles those drinks, as well as water. The violations have since been corrected.

?Failure to comply with Department regulations will result in penalties for violators,? said Martin Suuberg, director for DEP?s Central Regional Office in Worcester. ?All companies must be sure to know the rules governing the proper use, storage and disposal of hazardous wastes.?

The Department of Environmental Protection is responsible for ensuring clean air and water, safe management of solid and hazardous wastes, timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources.
