DEQ Issues $11,722 Penalty to Savage Services Corporation for Stormwater Permit Violations

Portland OR (12/30/2013) – The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a $11,722 penalty to Savage Services
Corporation for stormwater violations at its facility located within the Union Pacific Railroad Albina Yard, at 2500 N. Going Street in Portland.

The company failed to monitor stormwater discharge and to prepare corrective action reports about water quality benchmark exceedances and impairment pollutants that may harm water quality.

DEQ issued this penalty because monitoring pollutants in stormwater discharge that can harm water quality is essential to determine whether this facility is contributing to water quality concerns in the Willamette River. Without monitoring data, DEQ cannot analyze potential harmful environmental consequences.

Savage Services has until Jan. 7, 2013 to appeal the penalty.
