Green Mountain Valley School Settles Violations

1-10-2002

WATERBURY — Agency of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Johnstone today announced that the Agency’s Enforcement Division has formally settled an environmental violation involving the Green Mountain Valley School in Waitsfield. The settlement includes a $2,000 supplemental environmental project.

Through an investigation, the Agency discovered that the Green Mountain Valley School, which owns a public water supply system, had failed to conduct and submit certain water quality monitoring results. It also had failed to provide public notice to the users of the system regarding its failure to monitor.
The matter came to light as a result of the Agency’s routine regulatory review. After the investigation was completed, the Green Mountain Valley School was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter.

The settlement was reduced to an assurance of discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on January 8. Prior to settlement, the Green Mountain Valley School conducted the required water quality monitoring and submit the results to the Water Supply Division. The school agreed to monitor the system’s water quality in accordance with the regulations and to fund a $2,000 a supplemental environmental project.
