Purpose of Position

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

Why does the job exist?

This position identifies, implements, and manages environmental surveillance and monitoring projects for the DOE Oversight Bureau (DOE-OB) at Sandia National Laboratories/New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. The DOE-OB performs non-regulatory activities that provides scientifically valid results of environmental surveillance and monitoring activities at DOE facilities in New Mexico. This position contributes to sampling and analysis plans, work plans, standard operating procedures, and technical reports for submittal to the DOE. This position performs environmental multi-media sampling, data analysis, and other quality assurance / quality control functions related to environmental monitoring and data generation. This position will serve as the primary lead for the Sandia Oversight Section (SOS) stormwater program.

How does it get done?

The incumbent in this position implements multi-media environmental monitoring programs approved under the federal grant statement of work between the U.S. DOE and the State of New Mexico, and conducts environmental sampling and data analysis activities.

Who are the customers?

The Bureau provides technical analysis of data, reports, and other documents to inform the public about DOE activities in New Mexico and to assure the public that those activities are protective of public health and the environment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in:

– Planning and conducting multi-media (including air, water, biota, vegetation and sediment/soils) environmental sampling and data analysis with an emphasis on stormwater;
– Performing data review and analysis to compose technical reports for submittal to the DOE;
– Implementing quality assurance / quality control measures and documentation; and
– Facilitating public awareness and understanding of environmental issues by presenting complex technical data and information to a non-technical audience.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and five (5) years of experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Working Conditions
