Purpose of Position

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

Why does the job exist?

Position will assess and supervise staff that assess hazardous waste permitting and waste management practices, prepare permits and review site investigation and remediation documents for technical adequacy, prepare public notice documents and conduct oversight of soil and groundwater evaluations and remediation of contaminants at RCRA facilities.

How does it get done?

Key responsibilities include evaluation of technical plans and reports related to soil and groundwater investigations and remediation activities for the purpose of protection of human health and the environment. Review permit applications and prepare draft permits and serve as point of contact with assigned regulated facilities and supervise staff for same.

Who are the customers?

The position serves to protect human health and the environment for the State of New Mexico. The regulated facilities consist of Department of Defense, Department of Energy and commercial and industrial facilities.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have direct experience with environmental site investigations and remediation projects and also experience with regulatory compliance and permitting.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and five (5) years of experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with occasional travel required. Some exposure to seasonal weather conditions in the field and potential exposure to hazardous and/or radioactive waste.
