The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a water quality analyst for our Idaho Falls Regional Office. This position will be responsible for planning and implementing short- and long-term project goals and milestones related to meeting the total maximum daily load (TMDL) settlement agreement and regional commitments.
 

Example of Duties
 

  • Provide project leadership for the regional TMDL program including planning, monitoring and interpreting results for TMDLs and 5-year Review documents.
  • Draft, review, and comment on TMDL and 5-year Review documents, in coordination with regional and state office staff.
  • Communicate project status, monitoring results and conduct public meetings.
  • Participate in outreach efforts with the public and partner organizations, including watershed advisory, basin advisory, and nonprofit conservation groups.

 

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in the physical or biological sciences, political science, business or public administration, engineering, or related natural resources management field OR any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year bachelor’s degree. For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty four (24) semester hours in a subject required for the specific discipline, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or experience performing routine duties in completing multiple tasks such as policy research, data collection, interpretation, analysis and preparation of reports and written documents for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.

AND

At least four (4) years’ experience managing and implementing, projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental, regulatory, or administrative in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.

OR

Possession of a master’s degree in any of the above fields AND at least two (2) years’ professional experience managing and implementing, or overseeing projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.

Specialty Minimum Qualifications (required for this position):
  • DEQ 3128 Water: Considerable knowledge of water quality that has been gained through possession of a college degree (or work experience equivalency) and two (2) years of any combination of post-baccalaureate education or work experience interpreting, enforcing, or ensuring compliance with the requirements of the following: Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Act, and/or state environmental rules. Education/Experience Equivalency: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty-four (24) credited hours in a subject required for the particular degree, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or Each two (2) years of qualifying work experience as described on the announcement may be equivalent to one (1) year of undergraduate education.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time
  • Ability to reach and bend for filing purposes
  • Some periods of heavy reading and typing required
  • Some travel may be required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds over rough terrain
  • Ability to work in adverse or inclement weather
  • Ability to work in extreme hot or cold temperatures both outside and inside
  • May be required to travel and stay overnight in remote areas
