PORTLAND OR (6/26/2015) – On June 15, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a $2,000 civil penalty to Petrochemical Insulation, Inc. of Vallejo, Calif. for failing to submit to DEQ the proper emergency asbestos abatement
project notification form and fee within three days of commencing an emergency abatement project.
The abatement project was at the Georgia Pacific Toledo facility, located at 1400 Butler Bridge Rd.
DEQ issued the penalty because the notification requirement is the only manner in which DEQ is made officially aware of when and where asbestos abatement projects occur. Without the notification, DEQ is unable to inspect such projects to ensure that they are performed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations.
The company has until July 6 to appeal the penalty.
