July (2022) – Royal Sovereign International, Inc. (Royal Sovereign) is a Rockleigh, New Jersey based company that manufactures portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and air source heat pumps. Royal Sovereign sold or offered for sale portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and air source heat pumps in California, from January 2018 to January 2022.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that Royal Sovereign was manufacturing and offering for sale portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and air source heat pumps that did not meet the efficiency standard, failed the marking requirement, and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, Royal Sovereign executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on July 22, 2022, for $83,424.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Royal Sovereign has also agreed to a compliance plan to remove non-compliant products from the California market, add the appropriate marking, and test and certify all compliant models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
