Shirtcliff Oil of Myrtle Creek Cited by DEQ for Violations at Riddle-based Service Station

PORTLAND OR (7/27/2015) – On July 14, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a civil penalty of $8,525 to Shirtcliff Oil Co. of Myrtle Creek for water quality violations related to a groundwater treatment system at the company?s
Riddle facility. The facility, a motor fuel service station, is located at 292 Pruner Rd.

DEQ issued the penalty because fulfilling mandatory monitoring and reporting requirements of National
Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits are important obligations, without which DEQ and the public
are unable to evaluate the effectiveness of groundwater treatment systems. Exposure to monitored
substances, notably petroleum hydrocarbons and other gasoline components can cause severe health
problems in humans and significant risks to the environment.

The company has until Aug. 5 to appeal the penalties.
