State of Colorado’s WQCD Reaches Agreement with the City of Monte Vista to Resolve Water Quality Violations

Denver, CO (1/17/2023) – The State of Colorado’s Water Quality Control Division today
announced a Compliance Order on Consent (“COC”) with the City of Monte Vista (“Monte
Vista”) resolving water quality violations alleged in a Notice of Violation/Cease and Desist
Order (“NOV/CDO”) and in the COC. The NOV/CDO, filed August 25, 2020, and COC alleged that Monte Vista violated permit requirements and permit limits under two discharge permits from two waste water treatment facilities in Rio Grande County, Colorado. Under the COC, Monte Vista will complete a supplemental environmental project with a total expenditure of not less than $80,000. The COC, issued December 5, 2022, was subject to a 30-day public comment period.
