The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES), Waste
Management Division has an immediate opening for a full-time Waste
Management Specialist IV position within the Hazardous Waste Compliance
Bureau. This position is responsible for the supervision and development of
hazardous waste enforcement cases initiated under the NH Hazardous Waste
Management Act and the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The successful candidate will conduct compliance evaluation inspections at hazardous waste facilities, manage the follow-up enforcement activities, negotiate penalty cases, run EPA computer enforcement models
(e.g. BEN, ABLE and INDIPAY), draft settlement agreements and participate in
administrative hearings. Candidate must be able to pass a base-line medical
examination indicating the individual is physically capable of assuming all
duties required, including wearing respiratory protective equipment in
accordance with the recommendations of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). This is a challenging position in an exciting field with opportunities for advancement.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related
environmental science and six years’ experience in hazardous waste
management, environmental monitoring and analysis, hazardous material
handling or related scientific field OR six years’ experience in solid waste
management, hydrology, waste treatment systems, environmental monitoring and
testing or other related scientific fields. Each additional year of
approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience. Other relevant work experience possessed by the applicant will be considered as appropriate. A structured interview will be part of the
selection process and will require the individual to possess a working knowledge of the hazardous waste regulations, an understanding of chemistry and industrial manufacturing processes, and have strong communication and negotiation skills.
Salary range for this position is $36,933.00 – $44,050.50. We also offer an
