Wenzhou Shengkai Sanitary Ware Co. Ltd. Case Settles for $125,046

Sacramento CA (9/23/2021) – Wenzhou Shengkai Sanitary Ware Co. Ltd. (Wenzhou Shengkai) is a Wenzhou Zhenjiang Province, China, based company that manufactures plumbing fittings. Wenzhou Shengkai sold or offered for sale showerheads and lavatory faucets in California, from January 2016 to December 2020.

This case was the result of an industry complaint. The California Energy Commission’s (CEC) investigation and testing process identified that Wenzhou Shengkai was manufacturing and offering for sale showerheads and lavatory faucets that did not meet the efficiency standard, failed the marking requirement, and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, Wenzhou Shengkai executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on September 14, 2021, for $125,046.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Wenzhou Shengkai has also agreed to a compliance plan to redesign the non-compliant models to meet the efficiency standard, add the appropriate marking, and test and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
