Ohio EPA has reached a settlement with Aurora Terminal and Transportation, Inc., for violating air pollution control regulations at its gasoline loading rack facility located at 1519 South Chillicothe Road, Aurora (Portage County). The company agreed to pay an $18,000 civil penalty.
Representatives from the Akron Regional Air Quality Management District (ARAQMD), Ohio EPA’s contractual representative for Portage County, discovered violations during an inspection of the facility on July 28, 1999. The violations include failure to properly conduct the required daily and monthly record keeping; and failure to submit certain required quarterly and annual reports in a timely manner.
The company has since corrected the violations and submitted all of the required reports.
The company agreed to pay $3,600 of the civil penalty to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, for urban-area tree-planting projects in Ohio. The remaining $14,400 of the penalty will go to Ohio EPA, of which equal portions will be used to benefit the Ohio Environmental Education Fund and administer air pollution control programs.
