Sacramento CA (12/14/2022) – JMATEK North America, LLC (JMATEK) is a Mahwah, New Jersey based company that manufactures portable air conditioners and evaporative coolers. JMATEK sold or offered for sale portable air conditioners and evaporative coolers in California, from March 2018 to March 2022.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that JMATEK was manufacturing and offering for sale portable air conditioners that did not meet the efficiency standard and failed the marking requirement. Staff also identified portable air conditioners and evaporative coolers that were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, JMATEK executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on December 12, 2022, for $232,054.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). JMATEK has also agreed to a compliance plan to discontinue sales of non-compliant models, and ensure all products meet the applicable efficiency standard, have the appropriate marking, and are certified to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
